Why Should Caverta 50 mg Be Avoided In Certain Heart Conditions?
Caverta 50 mg contains sildenafil, a PDE-5 inhibitor used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). Sildenafil can cause a temporary reduction in blood pressure because it widens blood vessels. In most healthy men this effect is modest, but it can be more concerning in people with certain cardiovascular conditions.
Men whose heart condition makes sexual activity unsafe should generally avoid sildenafil until a doctor has assessed them. This may include people with unstable angina, severe heart failure, very low blood pressure, or certain serious cardiovascular problems. Extra caution is also advised after a recent heart attack, stroke, or life-threatening heart rhythm problem.
The most important interaction is with nitrate medicines, such as nitroglycerin (GTN) or isosorbide, commonly prescribed for angina. Caverta 50 mg can greatly enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effect of nitrates, potentially causing severe hypotension, fainting, or other dangerous cardiovascular complications. Combining them is contraindicated.
Sildenafil may also lower blood pressure further when combined with certain alpha-blockers or blood-pressure medicines, so medical supervision may be necessary.
Therefore, Caverta 50 mg is not automatically unsafe for everyone with heart disease, but a cardiovascular assessment is important before use. If you have chest pain during or after sexual activity, seek urgent medical attention. |
